The Caterpillar VR6 (K65-12B) is an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) designed for Caterpillar generator sets using KATO brushless alternators. It regulates the generator output voltage by controlling the excitation field current, maintaining stable power output under varying load conditions.
The VR6 supports both shunt-excited and PMG-excited configurations, making it adaptable to different generator system designs. It accepts single-phase or three-phase sensing input and includes frequency compensation to protect the alternator during speed variations. Remote voltage fine-tuning is possible via an external 10k ohm potentiometer.
