The MX321 is a PMG-excited, two or three-phase sensing Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) and generic replacement for the Cummins MX321, designed for brushless generators. Sensing input is 190–264V AC (2 or 3 phase) at 50–60 Hz. PMG power input is 170–220V AC (3-phase, 3-wire) at 100–120 Hz, with a current of 3A per phase.
The MX321 delivers a maximum output of 120V DC, with a continuous current of 3.7A and intermittent current of 6A for 10 seconds. Minimum field resistance is 15 ohms. Voltage regulation accuracy is ±0.5% RMS with 4% engine governing. Thermal drift is 0.02% per °C change in AVR ambient. Soft start ramp time is 0.4–4 seconds. System response time is 10ms for AVR, 80ms for field current to 90%, and 300ms for machine volts to 97%. Maximum power dissipation is 18 watts.
External voltage adjustment of ±10% is available via a 5kΩ trimmer. Under-frequency protection set point is 95% of nominal Hz with a slope of 100–300% down to 30 Hz. Over-excitation protection triggers at 75V DC with a delay of 8–15 seconds. Over-voltage detector set point is 300V with a 1-second fixed delay. Quadrature droop and current limit inputs are supported. Operating temperature range is -40°C to +70°C.
