The R449 is an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) for Leroy Somer brushless generators. It accepts a sensing input of 85–140V AC (single-phase, 2-wire) with voltage taps at 0–110V (95–140V), 0–220V (170–260V), and 0–380V (340–520V). Shunt supply is 150V at 50/60 Hz.
The R449 delivers a continuous output of 63V DC at 3.5A (single-phase, 120V). Rated overload current is 15A for 10 seconds. Built-in electronic protection covers overload, short circuit, and loss of sensing — if excitation current exceeds 10A for more than 10 seconds, it automatically drops to approximately 1A and requires a generator stop to reset.
The unit features adjustable voltage via potentiometer P2, quadrature droop adjustment via P1, and under-frequency (U/F) knee point adjustment via P4 for both 50 and 60 Hz systems. Excitation over-current adjustment range is 4.5 to 15A. It includes a sensing selection jumper (ST1) for single or three-phase sensing, a stability potentiometer, and a maximum excitation potentiometer. Contact capacity is 15A at 250V AC.
