HOTSTART CB models, are a coolant preheaters developed to maintain optimal temperatures for diesel and gas engines, construction equipment, trucks, heavy duty mobile equipment, marine and industrial applications. HOTSTART engine heaters maintain an engine’s operating temperature during downtime and serve as an excellent cold weather or emergency starting aid while eliminating needless idling. HOTSTART CB models circulate heated coolant using the thermosiphon principle, a method of passive heat exchange which circulates a fluid without the necessity of a mechanical pump.

HOTSTART CB engine heaters provide even heat distribution resulting in reduced engine wear, quick start-ups and reduced emissions. Pressure die-cast aluminum tank construction means HOTSTART heaters are built to last. Each unit includes a hi-limit safety thermostat rated for 205°F (95°C) ensuring safe operation day to day, year after year. These single-phase engine heaters are designed for hard-wire electrical connection using rigid or flexible conduit. All models are available with or without flow-through thermostat assemblies.

Engine Compatibility Guide

How to select the right heater: The primary selection factor is your engine’s displacement in cubic inches (CID) or liters. Find your engine’s displacement below to identify the correct Hotstart series and model. All single-phase (1Ø) heaters operate on thermosiphon principle — no pump required. Three-phase (3Ø) models require 3-phase power at the installation site.

⚠️ Important note for large V-configuration engines: For V-type engines with more than 8 cylinders (V10, V12, V16) or engines over 1,000 CID (16.4L), Hotstart recommends verifying that thermosiphon heaters provide adequate circulation. In some configurations, a pump-driven HOTflow® heater may be required. Contact us to confirm compatibility for your specific engine.

Quick Reference: How to Read the Displacement

Engine displacement can usually be found on the engine’s nameplate, datasheet, or owner’s manual. It may be listed as:

Liters: e.g., 18.1L → approx. 1,105 CID
Cubic Inches (CID): used directly in the table above
cc (cubic centimeters): divide by 16.39 to get CID (e.g., 18,100cc ÷ 16.39 ≈ 1,105 CID)
To convert liters to CID: multiply by 61.02 (e.g., 18.1L × 61.02 ≈ 1,105 CID).

Representative engine models are listed for reference only — actual compatibility depends on coolant circuit configuration. For V-engines with more than 8 cylinders or engines over 1,000 CID, consult Hotstart or Power Master Inc. before purchase. Power Master Inc. — powermasterinc.com
